One note of caution many premium .tv’s have very high renewal rates – The press release states “For the first time ever, Verisign and Sedo are auctioning 115 premium .tv domains with greatly reduced renewal rates.”

Hosterstats has just posted an interesting domain analysis of the relationship and frequency of  the same domain name being registered/unregistered for the .com .net .org .biz .info .mobi .asia .tel gTLDs.

The .info namespace  is particularly interesting because over 25% of the names registered are unique to .info (i.e. not registered in any of the other gTLDs.

The New Scientist is reporting Verizon has installed a 900 kilometre 100,000,000,000 bits (10 gigabits) fibre-optic link between Paris in France and Frankfurt in Germany.

YouTube are to start offering movie rentals on a trial basis.

For the initial trial Five full-length features drawn from 2010 and 2009 Sundance Film Festivals will be made available available. The rentals, which will cost $3.99 each, will be available until the end of the month and can be kept for up to 48 hours.

Afilias has just released its .info Annual Report for 2009.

With over 5 million .info domains registered .info is the 7th largest TLD in the world. Over 70% of .info domains resolve to real content and more than 1 million unique Web sites are based in the .info extension will millions more resolving to useful content.

.info domains now account for 40% of all domains registered in new TLDs. This chart from the report shows the relaltve size of new TLDs.

Our chart here compares the number of new gTLD pages  indexed by Google which gives an indication of usage rather than just simple registration numbers of the first chart from the report.

VeriSign has announced that as of July 1, 2010, the registry fee for .com domain names will increase from $6.86 to $7.34 and that the registry fee for .net domain names will increase, from $4.23 to $4.65
