It has been apparent again the big corporations have the edge on the small guy. It is this insidious attitude is predatory in nature.
I suggest the best way to deal with this situation is not create a vehicle for less competition at the expense of the small guy but to level the playing field so many can participate not just a few well heeled technocrats.
The Internet was created so the small user could be able to rise to the top of the world.
Saying that, once you reap that reward you are in a class by itself and need to be guided by a separate set of standards.
By creating a system as intended for all to reap some of the rewards we eliminate bias, conflict of interest and network domination.
It is the same reasons that ATT and Standard Oil was broken up to alleviate the monopoly of large corporations.
In my opinion, it is also needed here to cull the growth of behemoths in the making.
Only by leveling the playing field you will bring open competition from the masses not from the boardrooms.
We should learn from communism it did not work there and if capitalism is not guided correctly we have the DeBeers, OPEC, Standard Oil , ATTs. And in some cases the future Hitler’s of the world.
For some above it took great market forces or government intervention to level the playing field otherwise gentlemen we start another round of the repeat of history.
Shall we wait for it, to get out of control as other have intimated it has. Or should we be proactive and set a standard the envy of the world to follow.
I for one have seen enough abuses from registrars taking over names to registrars not adhering to ICANN policies to ICANN not enforcing those policies.
What is it worth an organization to oversee activity and not enforcing it, is like looking at our present economy is a resultant lack of oversight from so called authorized agencies with mandates to do so..
We all felt the effect of mismanagement and apathy.
