NeuStar today announced that two million domain names have been officially registered within the .BIZ Internet domain.

“In response to community comment and interest, ICANN has developed a proposed allocation framework and use of funds from the allocation of single-character second-level domain names (SC SLDs) in existing gTLDs. ICANN is proposing an auction mechanism and disbursement of funds toward areas of public good for the Internet community. Discussion of proposed allocation methods will involve consultation with gTLD registries.
Reuters (Moscow) is reprting Dmitry Medvedev the Russian President yesterday called for Russia to be assigned an Internet domain name in the Cyrillic script as part of a Kremlin drive to promote Russian as a global language.

Industry experts expect .rf (russian federatrion) which is .РФ in cyrillic to be lauched sometime in the next year with the number of .РФ domains registered eventually surpassing the number of .ru domain registrations.

The directory section www.info.info/directory showcases some of the best .info sites currently on the net like spain.info & lakesuperiorcircletour.info travel sites and arts sites including gallerynight.info and the newly lauched missengland.info
Chart.info has just released the 2008 .info gTLD market share map as with the the 2007 .info gTLD market share map it provides a visual snap shot of where .info is beginning to dominate and countries where there is more interest in other gTLD extensions.
In two of the largest markets Canada & the UK, the number of .info registrations have now passed .org
- May 6 to May 20: General Sunrise Period.
During this time, anyone with a trademark is eligible to apply for a .ME domain.
- May 20 to June 6: Quiet Period. The registry will be closed to registrars. Sunrise auctions will begin for names that received multiple applications. .ME domain names that receive only one application will be awarded.
- June 6 to June 26: Landrush. This is the first opportunity for the public at large to apply. Anyone who doesn’t have a trademark, but is interested in a specific .ME domain, can apply during this period. This is also when Sunrise challenges begin.
- June 26 to July 15: Quiet Period. During this time, the registry is closed to registrars. Names for which there was only one application during the Landrush Period are allocated. Landrush auctions will begin for names that received multiple applications.
- July 17: Open Registration. Domain names are registered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Munich, Germany–From March 17 to May 25 owners of German-speaking .INFO Websites can apply for the .INFO Award that will award 18.000 Euro in prize money later this year. The Award is created by global domain name registry Afilias in media-cooperation with INTERNET WORLD Business and addresses .INFO domain owners from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
